Thomas Mann (b. 1988) is a self-taught painter based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Working in both oil and acrylic, he draws on a range of artistic styles and inspirations within landscape painting. His lifelong love of the New England seasons provides ample material for his paintings, and is at the core of his artistic vision. Still, the endless diversity of the natural world often inspires him to depict a variety of scenes.
“My favorite paintings are like portals to other worlds – different places and times, whether real or imagined, that invite the viewer to wander in and get lost inside them. Ever since I was a child, landscape paintings have captured and ignited my imagination. Their power to transport us in an instant has fueled my lifelong pursuit of creative adventure.
In my work, I strive to conjure the experience of immersion in a living scene through the depiction of the complexity of nature. I employ a range of techniques to achieve this sense of lively reality, through brushwork alternating between loose and tight. Above all, I aim to build a vibrant sense of light. It is my highest goal for my paintings to take the imagination on a meaningful journey beyond the here and now, one that can be revisited again and again with every viewing.”
